Beachcombing

Come take a relaxing walk on miles and miles of black sand beach that offer unique chances to find treasures glass ballthat wash up from the Gulf of Alaska. Glass fishing floats, from across the Pacific, are a favorite find of locals as well as guests. You just never know what the ocean will deposit on the sand.

Berry & Mushroom Picking

The temperate rainforest of Yakutat produces a wide assortment of berries that have been collected by the Tlingits for hundreds of years. A few of the species found here include salmonberry, high-bush cranberry, strawberry, nagoonberry and blue berries. Summer and fall provide a tasty treat from the fungus family...mushrooms! We have serveral edible mushrooms that add wonderful side dish to a sockeye salmon dinner.

Glacier Tours

Yakutat is surrounded by one the world's highest coastal mountain ranges. Blue glaciers cascade down thesehubbard glacier mountains with many of them terminating at the sea. Nothing can be more thrilling than watching the Hubbard Glacier calve from a local boat on the water.

Wildlife Viewing

Birds of all species, moose, black & brown bear, seals, whales... what would you like to see? You will have a great chance to see many of these while hiking the trails in the Tongass National Forest, walking the beach or viewing the area by boat.ducks

Surfers from all over the world come to Yakutat for a very special chance to catch a wave. Wind and waves from the Gulf of Alaska break on our beaches and points producing waves worth riding. There is even a local surf shop if you would like to rent a board or equipment.
