The rivers in the Yakutat area support some of the best runs of wild salmon in southeast Alaska.  Area waters support Dolly Varden char and resident rainbow trout year-round while hosting king, sockeye, pink, and silver salmon, and both fall and spring runs of wild steelhead trout.

Fly fishing is our preferred method to fish these salmon and trout, though some are more comfortable using level-wind and spinning gear.  We can provide rods, reels, and appropriate flies.

The Akwe River Self-Catered Trips

A unique fishing area in a pristine wilderness setting, the Akwe River winds through the Tongass National Forest.  Our camp is one of only two allowed on the Akwe River*, this special site is situated directly on a spit between the river and the Gulf of Alaska. Summer runs of sockeye, king, and pink salmon are followed by silver salmon in the fall months.

The Akwe River is located 25 miles southeast of Yakutat. These are all self guided/self catered trips for parties of 6-8 fishermen. Parties are met and picked up on an airstrip 3 miles from the camp. Transportation to the camp is by Honda fourwheelers and personal trailers. The camp consists of three 14x16 tent cabins. One serves as a cook cabin the other two sleeping cabins. The camp is located on the Akwe River six miles from the mouth.

Guides will transport your group daily by fourwheeler with trailers to various fishing holes and assist your needs. We limit the take of salmon to 8 fish per client (the possession limit for this river) and can provide ice & vacuum packing for your fish while at camp.
